Our $10,000 bill pictures Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th President of the United States. Although Eisenhower has never been pictured on authentic US currency, he is pictured here on our novelty currency. Eisenhower served as the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe in World War II, and later served as the first Supreme Commander of NATO, before serving two terms as President from 1953 to 1961. During his presidency, he was credited with ending the Korean War, continuing pressure on the Soviet Union during the Cold War, starting the space race, beginning the Interstate Highway System, expanding Social Security, and making nuclear weapons a major defense strategy. The largest currency bill ever printed by the US government for general circulation was the $10,000 bill; last printed in 1946. (The US government did print a $100,000 Gold Certificate in 1934 and 1935, but it was only used for transactions between Federal Reserve Banks and was not circulated among the general public).
